The Equipment Operator SkillBridge Intern supports field operations by learning to safely operate, maintain, and assist with heavy equipment used in commercial construction projects. This role is ideal for transitioning service members who have experience with machinery, vehicles, or technical equipment and want to build a long-term career in the construction industry.Participants will work alongside experienced operators, superintendents, and project teams to gain hands on skills, understand jobsite workflows, and contribute to daily production activities.
Key responsibilities include the following: Learn to operate skid steers, forklifts, telehandlers, mini excavators, and other jobsite equipment under supervision. Assist with grading, material staging, debris removal, and ground prep. Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety protocols; participate in daily toolbox talks. Conduct basic inspections, cleaning, fueling, and reporting of maintenance needs to supervisor. Assist superintendents and project managers with daily tasks to maintain workflow and productivity. Support daily logs, equipment checklists, and material tracking as needed.
Military background with mechanical, transportation, engineering, or equipment related duties preferred. Strong commitment to safety and situational awareness. Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and perform labor tasks as needed. Valid driver’s license. Experience with forklifts, loaders, or other heavy equipment. Mechanical aptitude or maintenance experience. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification are not required but preferred.
