The Brawley Fire Department is offering a SkillBridge internship opportunity for transitioning service members to gain real-world experience in firefighting, emergency medical services, techincal rescue and fire prevention. This role is ideal for service members interested in pursuing a civilian career in public service, firefighting, and/or EMS. Interns will play a key role in supporting and improving services provided by the department during daily operations, in support roles on emergency incidents, and aiding in prevention inspections and education.Key Responsibilities: participate in training; classroom instruction, participate in hands-on evolutions and drills, aid in the delivery of such training. Shadow department personnel, learning first hand the roles, responsibilities and expectations of varying positions within the fire service. Aid in performance of station, apparatus, vehicle, equipment and fire hydrant maintenance; learning vital skills for future employment in the fire service.
Required Skills and Qualities:Active duty service member eligible for DoD SkillBridge participation; strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership experience, problem-solving, ability to work in a team and community-focused environment. Willingness to learn and engage in hands-on training, participate in public speaking, interest in public safety, emergency medical services, & education.
Candidates must be in good health and have no condition that would restrict their ability to safely do fire suppression and rescue training. Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for running, walking, crawling, climbing, stooping and lifting while wearing protective equipment; work in inclement weather conditions
