In this internship you will learn to perform field assignments to support engineering and environmental projects. Tasks may include performing field observation and/or testing; operating various types of field equipment (e.g., GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, and oil/water interface probes); sampling various media, including drinking water, soil, groundwater, concrete, asphalt, surface water, sediment, indoor air, and soil vapor; overseeing contractors performing a variety of tasks including excavation, construction, waste management, and well drilling; installing and/or maintaining treatment systems and/or implementing remedial technologies to address impacts to drinking water, groundwater, stormwater, soil, sediment, and indoor air; reviewing and understanding project plans and specifications; following applicable health and safety procedures; and documenting field activities.
Supports a Project Team of engineers and scientists in planning, executing, and documenting site work at engineering and environmental field projects. Performs essential duties as directed: • Prepares for site visits by reviewing project scopes of work, reviewing applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs), and staging necessary supplies and equipment.• Reviews site-specific health and safety plan and task-specific health and safety program elements and performs an evaluation of potential task risks and applicable safety measures to be implemented (Job Safety Analysis [JSA]).• Travels to field sites to assist/perform field assignments of substantial variety and complexity related to the design, testing, and reporting on engineering and/or environmental projects under oversight from senior staff or at the direction of the Project Team.• Performs field work following safe work practices, in accordance with the health and safety program.• Prepares notes and field forms to document the execution of project scopes of work. • Following site visits, submits field documentation and expense reporting.• Operates and maintains laboratory and field equipment. • Utilizes Microsoft 365 software for general communication and information management.
