The SkillBridge Military Fellowship will prepare participants to be considered for a Developmental Technician – General Facilities Maintenance role with Walmart upon completion of the program.This is a temporary SkillBridge training opportunity not to exceed 180 days, with duration aligned to the Service member’s approved SkillBridge window. The current program structure is a 12-week fellowship consisting of five weeks of classroom instruction at UHP in Gentry, Arkansas, followed by seven weeks of on-the-job training at a Walmart field location.Qualified candidates may be interviewed and matched to specific fellowship opportunities and locations based on business requirements, candidate qualifications, and location availability.The objective of the program is to provide quality skill development to all participants. While job opportunities may be available after program completion, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.
Participants will train as Developmental Technicians specializing in General Facilities Maintenance within Walmart’s local retail store environment. This role supports the safety, functionality, and appearance of Walmart stores, equipment, fixtures, and facilities.Working under the guidance of a local General Maintenance Manager and experienced technicians, participants will follow established schedules and guidelines while learning to perform inspections, cleaning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.Training may include maintaining and repairing Walmart facilities, equipment, and assets by utilizing multiple craft skills such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, material handling equipment, and food equipment. Participants will use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete assigned maintenance tasks safely and effectively.Participants will also learn how to use Walmart’s work order management system to receive reactive repair work orders, support stores and store associates, and document repair activities. Training may include prompt response to emergency maintenance calls, inspecting and testing facilities, equipment, or fixtures to diagnose issues, and completing required safety and equipment training.All primary responsibilities will be assisted or performed under the direct supervision of an experienced technician.Over the course of the SkillBridge experience, participants will have the opportunity to:Translate military experience into civilian skills in a corporate and operational environment.Build role-specific capability through training, mentorship, and on-the-job learning.Gain exposure to Walmart’s maintenance standards, systems, tools, and processes.Develop a professional network and increase readiness for post-separation employment.
Preferred qualifications: Developmental Technician – General Facilities Maintenance candidates should have experience or training in maintenance, repair, facilities operations, mechanical systems, construction trades, equipment repair, or a related technical field.Active-Duty Service members of any rank, enlisted or officer, may apply for entry- to mid-level opportunities. Senior-level consideration may be available based on applicable industry experience and transferable military background.Participation requires command approval and adherence to all DoD SkillBridge guidelines. Candidates must be eligible to participate within their approved SkillBridge window.Participants are not eligible for compensation from Walmart while on active duty and will continue to receive military pay, allowances, and benefits from the U.S. Government during the SkillBridge period.

Participants will gain exposure to Walmart’s operating environment, tools, processes, safety standards, and maintenance practices through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on field training.The opportunity takes place in two phases:Weeks 1–5 | Classroom Instruction – Gentry, ArkansasParticipants begin the fellowship at UHP in Gentry, Arkansas in a structured classroom-based environment. This phase is designed to build foundational readiness in safety, tools, repair processes, maintenance concepts, and professional expectations before candidates enter the field.Room and board are covered during this phase.Weeks 6–12 | On-the-Job Training – Multiple LocationsParticipants transition to a separate location for hands-on training in a live maintenance environment. During this phase, candidates are paired with an experienced maintenance technician and continue developing practical skills through guided field experience.Candidates are responsible for finding lodging during this phase. Service members are currently required to cover the cost of travel.
