The City of Moscow Police Department is currently looking for qualified entry-level and candidates for the role of police officer to serve our community. To be considered, applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet the Idaho POST physical agility standard. Candidates should also embrace the principles of community policing and be prepared to undertake various specialized duties as assigned.
BASIC FUNCTION:Under supervision, provide police protection and services in Moscow to safeguard citizens' lives, property, and rights. Respond to emergencies, enforce laws, and perform specialized duties.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Offer police protection and enforce laws in Moscow.Respond to citizen calls for first aid and assistance.Provide first aid at crime scenes and emergencies.Coordinate with city personnel and law enforcement.Prepare detailed reports, forms, and citations.Maintain specialized equipment per procedures.POLICE OFFICER DUTIES:Patrol assigned areas for potential harm or law violations.Investigate harmful or illegal activities.Issue citations and arrest suspects.Investigate criminal complaints and prepare cases for trial.Conduct background checks and present evidence in court.Maintain proficiency in driving, firearms, and arrest techniques.Train in specialized police duties as needed.Guide the public in preventing illegal situations.Conduct crime scene investigations and community education on crime prevention.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• Graduation from high school or GED.REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS• Valid Driver’s License.• Qualification for Basic Certification through Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.• Successful completion of background investigation including physical, psychological, and polygraph examinations.• Basic POST Certification within twelve months of employment.
