Dispatcher —The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing daily freight movements for company drivers, ensuring loads are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company operational standards. This role serves as the central communication hub between drivers, customers, brokers, and internal operations personnel. The Dispatcher monitors load progress, resolves operational issues in real time, and ensures that drivers are supported while meeting delivery schedules and service commitments. The Dispatcher plays a critical role in maintaining operational accountability, protecting equipment and cargo, and ensuring the company consistently delivers reliable logistics services. Key Responsibilities Load Planning and Dispatch Assign loads to drivers based on availability, hours-of-service status, and operational priorities.Coordinate pickup and delivery schedules to ensure on-time performance.Maintain daily dispatch schedules and load boards.Driver Communication and SupportServe as the primary point of contact for drivers during active shipments.Provide routing guidance, appointment information, and operational updates.Assist drivers in resolving issues related to pickups, deliveries, and equipment.Shipment Monitoring: Track shipments using GPS, ELD data, or customer tracking systems.Monitor driver progress and proactively address delays or issues.Communicate shipment status updates to customers and internal stakeholders.Regulatory ComplianceEnsure driver compliance with Hours-of-Service regulations.Verify proper documentation for shipments including bills of lading and delivery receipts.Maintain awareness of DOT and company safety policies.Operational Problem SolvingCoordinate with shippers, receivers, and drivers to resolve scheduling conflicts or operational disruptions.Arrange alternative solutions when delays, equipment issues, or route changes occur.Administrative and Reporting DutiesMaintain accurate records of dispatch activities, load assignments, and communication logs.Assist with billing documentation, load confirmations, and proof-of-delivery collection.Support operations leadership with reporting and performance tracking.QualificationsRequiredStrong organizational and multitasking skills.Ability to communicate clearly with drivers, customers, and internal staff.Ability to remain calm and make decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.Basic understanding of transportation operations and freight logistics.PreferredPrior experience in trucking dispatch or transportation operations.Familiarity with DOT regulations and Hours-of-Service requirements.Experience using transportation management systems (TMS) or dispatch software.Work Environment: Office-based operations role.Requires frequent communication via phone, email, and dispatch software.May require occasional after-hours coordination depending on operational needs.
