The Atlantic Test Range (ATR) is the Navy’s East Coast open-air test range and supports aviation, weapons system, and experimentation test and evaluation (T&E) events as well as warfighter training exercises. ATR provides real-time T&E services including data acquisition, instrumentation, data analysis, recording, test management, and airspace management to Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial customers. The RF Signatures Measurement branch of the ATR is made up of four teams: Electronic Warfare (EW), Radar, the Advanced Dynamic Aircraft Measurement System (ADAMS), and a Development team. The EW team operates multiple emitter sites (fixed and mobile), providing Missions Systems programs with the specific signals needed to stimulate their systems. The Radar team operates and maintains three instrumentation radars offering precision tracking solutions to ATR customers. Additionally, they maintain surface search and air surveillance radars for range and airfield safety for both Patuxent River Naval Air Station and NASA Wallops Island Launch Facility. The ADAMS team performs dynamic Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements, as well as offering the Broadband Emitter Antenna Measurement System (BEAMS) for measuring radio frequency (RF) transmissions from airborne targets. The Development team offers in-house Software and RF engineering support to the other teams. ADAMS/BEAMS in particular are developed completely in house, by a mixed team of Government and Contractor personnel. These teams provide critical support to DoD T&E efforts, and apprentices will have a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of advanced systems in support of the Warfighter. Apprentices receive training in basic electronics, RF, and Radar concepts, as well as receiving hands-on training with a wide range of hardware and electronics/RF test equipment. Additionally, they will assist branch personnel with their tasks, and participate in operations as long as scheduling/security considerations allow. Apprentices completing the program will not only learn the basic theory of electronics and RF, but also gain experience putting those fundamentals into practice in a dynamic NAVAIR T&E environment.Upon completion of the program, the candidate is very likely to receive a full-time job offer as an Engineering Technician (level and pay rate determined by relevant prior experience).
