Cullman Emergency Medical Service (Cullman EMS) participates as a host organization in the Department of Defense SkillBridge program to support transitioning Service Members pursuing civilian careers in Emergency Medical Services.The program provides structured, supervised training aligned with EMT and Paramedic career pathways. Participants receive hands-on experience through classroom instruction, skills labs, and field internships while remaining Active Duty Service Members.Cullman EMS ensures compliance with all SkillBridge requirements, including non-compensation, non-displacement of employees, and adherence to patient safety and confidentiality standards.This program strengthens the local EMS workforce while supporting Service Member transition and readiness.
Track A: EMT PathwayThis track is designed for participants pursuing or holding EMT certification.Focus Areas:• Basic life support skills• Patient assessment• Airway and oxygen therapy• Trauma care and packaging• EMS documentation and communicationsParticipants function only under supervision and within Alabama EMT scope of practice.Track B: Paramedic PathwayThis track is designed for participants who are licensed paramedics or actively pursuing paramedic certification.Focus Areas:• Advanced patient assessment• Cardiac monitoring and rhythm recognition (observation if unlicensed)• Advanced airway management (observation/assistance)• Trauma systems and critical care exposure• Leadership and team coordinationNo independent advanced skills or medication administration unless appropriately licensed.
