IES Safety Rentals is hiring transitioning service members as Field Service / Shop Technicians supporting our growing rental fleet across the oil & gas, marine, and industrial sectors. Interns train alongside experienced technicians on inspection, calibration, and repair of gas detection equipment, SCBA breathing air systems, confined space rescue gear, and fall protection equipment. The dual role splits time between hands-on shop work and onshore/offshore field service. Military mechanical, instrumentation, and emergency response experience translates directly into this role. The program prepares interns for full-time hire as a Field Service Technician II upon successful completion.
Position OverviewIES Safety Rentals' Field Service / Shop Technician supports the rental fleet through equipment preparation, maintenance, and repair in the shop, and provides field service support at customer locations including industrial facilities and offshore platforms. This dual-role position is ideal for mechanically inclined service members who excel in hands-on, problem-solving environments and want a fast-moving career supporting critical safety equipment.Key ResponsibilitiesShop:- Inspect, clean, test, and prepare rental equipment for deployment- Perform maintenance and minor repairs on gas detection equipment (portable & fixed), SCBA / breathing air systems, and confined space and fall protection equipment- Track equipment status, ensure rental readiness, and assist with inventory control and asset tracking- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environmentField:- Mobilize to onshore and offshore customer sites- Support installation, setup, and troubleshooting of rental equipment- Perform inspections, calibrations, and basic service work- Interface professionally with customers and respond to urgent service needsQualifications- Active-duty service member within 180 days of separation, approved for SkillBridge participation- High school diploma or equivalent- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work in shop and field environments- Willingness to travel including occasional offshore work- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces or at heights- Valid driver's license; ability to pass background check and drug screen- TWIC card preferred (or willingness to obtain)Preferred Experience- Experience with gas detection equipment (MSA, Blackline, Honeywell BW)- SCBA inspection or repair experience- Industrial or oil & gas background- Offshore certifications (HUET, BOSIET/FOET)- Electronics or instrumentation exposureTraining & Certifications ProvidedOSHA 10/30, H2S Awareness, SafeGulf/SafeLandUSA, First Aid/CPR/AED, HUET, BOSIET/FOET, TWIC support, manufacturer-specific gas detection and SCBA certifications, NFPA 1981 SCBA inspection familiarity, and ANSI Z359 fall protection inspector familiarity.Post-Internship OutcomeUpon successful completion of the SkillBridge program, interns are eligible for full-time hire as a Field Service Technician II with IES Safety Rentals, with advancement pathways into Lead Technician, Field Service Supervisor, Calibration Lab Specialist, and Operations Manager roles.
