Veteran Service Representative (VSR): Warrior Training Advancement Course (WARTAC) is a skill-bridge education and employment opportunity for Wounded Warriors and transitioning Servicemembers to complete a national-level VBA training program while still on active duty. Successful completion of this training program leads to an employment opportunity at one of 55 VBA Regional Offices around the country. Participants learn the skill set of a Veteran service representative (VSR). The duration of the VSR class is 6 weeks.

ABOUT THE JOB

Veteran Service Representative (VSR): Specific Duties:• Make determinations as to the eligibility for the type of benefit sought to include questions relating to adequacy of military service, medical evidence and the evaluation of evidence of income, employability, dependence and relationship• Request examinations, re-examination or opinions to evaluate disabilities resulting from diseases or injuries• Review claims cases to assure all issues have been addressed, applies and interprets VA laws, including veterans' case law, existing statutes and procedures, precedent rulings and state law in the adjudication process• May conduct interviews in person or by phone with veterans, representatives and advocates to explain the full range of VA benefits and related programs• Prepare and release correspondence for use by other federal, state and local agencies• Utilize various electronic data processing (EDP) systems to input data for processing claims and generating automated correspondence.

  • May conduct interviews in person or by phone with veterans, representatives and advocates to explain the full range of VA benefits and related programs

  • Utilize various electronic data processing (EDP) systems to input data for processing claims and generating automated correspondence

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Transitioning Service members who have 180-days or less left in active service
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to interpret regulations and apply laws required to explain, evaluate evidence to recommend determinations of eligibility and research routine issues to resolve discrepancies
  • One (1) full year of graduate-level education; related to the competencies required to perform in this position
  • A Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement (3.0 or higher)
  • A combination of graduate education and experience as listed above

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY

WARTAC is open to transitioning Service members who have 180-days or less left in active service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to interpret regulations and apply laws required to explain, evaluate evidence to recommend determinations of eligibility and research routine issues to resolve discrepancies. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: 1) Requesting relevant medical or administrative evidence to make eligibility determinations. 2) Analyzing medical evidence, benefit and/or legal evidence to identify and recognize required actions for claim development. 3) Explaining program benefit entitlements and requirements. OR B. One (1) full year of graduate-level education; related to the competencies required to perform in this position OR A Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement (3.0 or higher)OR C. A combination of graduate education and experience as listed above.
