Houston Firefighter / EMT Cadet
Participants will apply for and become Interns in the Houston Fire Department. Participants will receive 10 weeks of EMT school and then, all things considered, receive conditional job offers and continue to fire school as a paid cadet of the Houston Fire Department. After fire school applicants will then be sent to a station for their probationary firefighter period to begin their career serving Houston in the capacity of a Probationary Houston Firefighter/EMT.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Houston Fire Department exists to enhance the public safety paradigm for the City of Houston – its residents, industries, and infrastructure. Firefighters have an integral role in achieving the HFD’s mission to save lives, property, and serve the community. Firefighters in the HFD respond to emergencies such as wildland and structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle extrications, and high-water rescues. Representing a uniquely hazardous occupation, service as a Houston Firefighter requires an uncommon commitment to personal sacrifice in deference to the public good
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to emergencies such as wildland and structure fires
- Handle hazardous materials incidents
- Perform motor vehicle extrications
- Conduct high-water rescues
