C260 Mechanical Engineer
The Code 260 (C260) Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) provides technical direction on fluid and mechanical systems for all non-nuclear work in connection with overhaul, repair, conversion, construction, inactivation, recycling of ships and submarines and other projects as assigned; technical guidance and assistance in the development and implementation of shipyard training programs as required to support accomplishment of cognizant non-nuclear work on fluid and mechanical systems; ensuring proper liaison with the Production Resources Department (Code 900) and Operations Department (Code 300); and additional duties assigned by NNSY’s Chief Engineer. The purpose of this 26-week plan is to provide active-duty sailors participating in the SkillBridge program the necessary on the job training and the opportunity to have the opportunity to compete for a full-time job within the division. This opportunity for a full-time job will be based on their combined military and previous work experience relating to non-propulsion and propulsion plant piping and equipment as well as exceptional performance reviews during the time of internship.

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer, GS-08 through GS-11Job Description: The primary function of this position is to provide C260 Division waterfront and planning yard products for overhaul, repair, conversion, construction, inactivation, and recycling of ships. These products include but are not limited to the development and review of Task Group Instructions (TGIs), technical manuals, process instructions, correspondences (letters and memos), test specifications, system drawings, etc. Other primary functions may include ordering performing ship checks, selecting and ordering material, performing calculations, and data analysis. RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform ship checks, select and order material, perform calculations, and data analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS
- US Citizenship
- Ability to gain a Security Clearance
- Pass a background check
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
You must be a US Citizen, be able to gain a Security Clearance, pass a background check, and potentially pass a drug screening. This position is on location at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.
