The Welding and Joining Technology program is designed to prepare students for careers in the welding industry. Program learning opportunities develop technical, professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes welding theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates have the qualifications of a welding and joining technician, are prepared to take industry qualification tests, and will receive three (3) Technical Certificates of Credit as follows - Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder; Gas Metal Arc Welder; and Gas Tungsten Arc Welder, earning 24 college credits.

ABOUT THE JOB

Welders fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment through the use of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools. Welders produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications. Welders set up, operate and maintain welding equipment. Welders manage the machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment. These skilled professionals work in a variety of industries including automotive, construction, and manufacturing. Other duties include planning layouts and measurements and testing welded surfaces.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment.

  • Produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications.
  • Plan layouts and measurements.
  • Test welded surfaces.

Lodging provided by Robins AFB in a contingency dorm at no cost. Single room, shared bath with same gender; therefore, military members cannot be accompanied.Cost of program is paid for using Federal and State Grants such as Georgia Hope Grant, Georgia Career Grant, Pell Grant, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Grant. Georgia VECTR Center’s programs are designed for service members without transferable skills in the civilian sector. Students with a bachelor’s degree or higher may not qualify for certain financial aid.
