Welding NCCER Level 1 & 2 (Arc, MIG, & TIG) Employment
In this training course, the student will learn Welding Safety, Blue Print Reading, Construction Math, Material Handling, Oxyfuel Cutting, Plasma Cutting, Air-Carbon ArcCutting, Base Metal Preparation, Weld Quality, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), SMAWBeads and Fillet Welding, Joint Fit-Up and Alignment, SMAW Groove Welds with Backing, Welding Symbols, Physical Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Metals, Preheating and Post heating of Metals, and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG & TIG). Additionally, the student will receive soft skills training (Resume writing, interviewing skills, dressing for success, and other jobseeking and job keeping skills) as part of their training. Craven Community College doesn't place the student in a job but does assist the student with job seeking if they are interested. Successful completion of the course and obtainment of certification makes the student highly employable in a career that provides above average wages nationally.
ABOUT THE JOB
Welding
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn and apply welding safety protocols
- Read blueprints and perform construction math
- Handle materials and perform various types of cutting (Oxyfuel, Plasma, Air-Carbon Arc)
- Prepare base metals and understand weld quality
- Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), SMAW Beads and Fillet Welding, and SMAW Groove Welds with Backing
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand and apply welding symbols
- Comprehend physical characteristics and mechanical properties of metals
- Apply preheating and post heating techniques on metals
- Perform Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG & TIG)

This Welding Course leads to certification through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (https://www.nccer.org/workforce-development-programs/virtual-training?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3OHfg7mk9AIVp2xvBB1_-wRxEAAYASAAEgLovPD_BwE). Students who successfully complete will receive the Level 1 Certification (Metal Cutting, Metal Preparation and Arc (Stick) Welding) and the Level 2 certification (MIG and TIG). These classes have a limited capacity of 12 students so, it is first-come, first-served basis.
