The 96th Test Wing (96 TW) at Eglin AFB is seeking a motivated and creative Public Affairs Specialist for an upcoming SkillBridge internship.As the principal test and evaluation center for Air Force air-delivered weapons, navigation, and guidance systems, the 96 TW has a dynamic and critical story to tell. This SkillBridge opportunity provides hands-on experience in public relations, corporate communications, and multimedia content creation within one of the Department of Defense's premier testing environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will work directly with the 96 TW Public Affairs Office to support the commander's communication strategies across three primary domains:Community Engagement--Build and maintain positive relationships with the local Emerald Coast community. Assist in coordinating base tours, speaking engagements, and major community events. Serve as a liaison between the installation and civic leaders.Media Relations--Facilitate local and regional media interactions. Draft press releases, respond to media queries, and prepare subject matter experts (SMEs) for interviews. Escort media representatives during on-base testing and evaluation events.Command Information--Drive internal communications to keep the workforce informed and aligned with the wing's mission. Create compelling written, photo, and video content for the base website, official social media channels, and internal newsletters. What We Are Looking For• Transitioning Service Members: Must be eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program (within 180 days of separation/retirement).• Strong Communicators: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.• Creative Thinkers: Ability to take complex, technical test wing data and translate it into engaging stories for public audiences.• Team Players: Ability to work collaboratively in a high-visibility, fast-paced joint environment.• Note: Prior experience in Public Affairs (PA), Mass Communication, or Combat Camera is highly desired, but highly motivated individuals from other AFSCs with strong writing/media skills are encouraged to apply.
