Associated Training Services (ATS) is a private education and training school offering entry level training programs for heavy equipment operators, crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, and Class-A CDL truck drivers. ATS’s heavy equipment programs include equipment such as wheel loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, scrapers, motor graders and skid steers. ATS’s crane programs include telescopic boom cranes, lattice boom cranes, tower cranes, articulated boom cranes and digger derricks. ATS’s crane programs help students get certified through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).
A Rigger & Signalperson is a dual-role construction professional responsible for safely preparing, attaching, and guiding heavy loads moved by cranes. They select appropriate rigging gear, calculate load weights, inspect equipment for defects, and use standardized hand or radio signals to direct crane operators, ensuring precise, safe movement. Key Responsibilities & Duties:• Rigging Operations: Selecting, inspecting, and maintaining lifting gear (slings, shackles, hooks, chains).• Load Management: Determining load weights, calculating the center of gravity, and properly securing loads.• Signaling: Using OSHA-standardized hand signals or voice communication to guide crane operators, especially when the load or landing area is not visible to the operator.• Safety Compliance: Ensuring all activities comply with OSHA regulations to prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.• Site Coordination: Communicating with the lifting team to ensure safe, efficient placement of materials.
