Security Support Assistant On the job training
A Security Support Assistant (SSA) engages in activities to support Transportation Security Officers (TSO) providing passenger and baggage screening in aviation and other transportation modes. The incumbent performs support functions related to passenger and baggage screening through the use and application of processes, procedures, and techniques.
ABOUT THE JOB
The SSA is responsible for performing routine tasks in support of TSA operations at airports or other transportation terminals, as assigned. This position supports TSO functions but is not trained nor sanctioned to perform passenger and/or baggage screening for which certification is required. The incumbent acts under close supervision. The incumbent will carry out progressively more difficult and responsible tasks including, but not limited to serving as queue monitor in advance of the security checkpoint; divesting coach for advising traveling public; assisting in handling luggage for inspection; replenishing security checkpoint supplies; and other job-related duties as assigned. Depending on duty location, shifts may require work of unconventional hours to support local airport operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing routine tasks in support of TSA operations at airports or other transportation terminals.
- Supporting TSO functions but not performing passenger and/or baggage screening.
- Serving as queue monitor in advance of the security checkpoint.
- Advising traveling public as a divesting coach.
- Assisting in handling luggage for inspection.
- Replenishing security checkpoint supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work under close supervision.
- Capability to carry out progressively more difficult and responsible tasks.
- Flexibility to work unconventional hours depending on duty location.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
Depending on duty location, training and full-time employment, shift work and unconventional hours will be required to support local airport operations.
