We encourage ALL interested applicants to apply, regardless of technical background or proficiency level. While we consider all applicants, certain backgrounds typically have better prepared applicants for the program and have made them more competitive in the application process. Many of our program graduates have a background in cyber operations specialties such as cyber warfare, penetration testing, vulnerability research, threat hunting, computer forensics, malware analysis, reverse engineering, systems administration, and/or computer networking. Other criteria that makes applicants more competitive are: familiarity with low level languages such as C and Assembly; applicants previously interested in pursuing CNODP; college courses involving programming, reverse engineering, or operating systems; commercial training or certifications such as PEN-200 (OSCP), EXP-301 (OSED), EXP-401 (OSEE), SANS SEC670, SANS SEC660 (GXPN), SANS SEC760, SANS FOR610 (GREM), SANS FOR710, or work on hobbyist projects and self-study that align with these various criteria.
