The SkillBridge Dog Training & Business Operations Internship with Next-Door K9 Solutions provides transitioning service members with hands-on experience in professional dog training, client relations, and small business operations. Participants will work directly alongside experienced trainers to learn structured obedience training, behavior modification techniques, and real-world client coaching.In addition to canine training, interns will gain exposure to the operational side of a growing service-based business, including sales processes, lead management, customer communication, scheduling systems, and marketing strategies. The program emphasizes leadership, problem-solving, accountability, and communication skills that translate directly to civilian careers.By the end of the program, participants will have developed practical experience in dog training methodologies, customer service, and business operations while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
The Dog Trainer & Operations Intern will participate in a structured, hands-on training program designed to develop skills in professional dog training, behavior modification, and small business operations. Participants will work directly alongside experienced trainers and staff to gain real-world experience in both the technical and operational aspects of the dog training industry.Interns will assist with daily training activities, kennel management, client communication, and administrative operations while learning proven training methodologies and customer service practices. The program is designed to build leadership, accountability, communication, and problem-solving skills that translate directly to civilian career opportunities.Primary Responsibilities• Assist professional trainers with daily dog training sessions• Learn and apply structured obedience training techniques (on-leash and off-leash)• Observe and assist with behavior modification training for common behavioral issues• Support trainers during private lessons and client coaching sessions• Participate in kennel operations including feeding, cleaning, and dog care• Help manage daily schedules, training plans, and client updates• Learn customer service and communication strategies when working with clients• Assist with lead tracking, CRM management, and basic sales processes• Participate in team meetings, training reviews, and program evaluations• Support operational tasks such as facility organization, equipment preparation, and training documentationSkills Developed During Program• Professional dog training techniques• Behavior assessment and modification strategies• Leadership and team collaboration• Customer communication and client coaching• Sales fundamentals and lead management• Small business operations and service delivery• Time management and operational efficiencyWork EnvironmentThis program is conducted in a fast-paced, hands-on training environment where interns will work directly with dogs, trainers, and clients in both controlled training settings and real-world environments.

The training location for this SkillBridge opportunity is in Belville, North Carolina, which is located in Brunswick County near Wilmington, NC. The facility is approximately 45–60 minutes from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, making it accessible for transitioning service members stationed in the surrounding area.Training will take place at our professional dog training facility and in nearby real-world environments used for training scenarios and client instruction.Participants are responsible for securing their own transportation, lodging, and meals during the duration of the program. Housing and meals are not provided by the organization.
