City of Tucson Skillbridge Internship Program (Trade(s) Opportunities)
The DoD Skillbridge Street Maintenance Worker III intern position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation and Mobility will train to learn to perform highly skilled maintenance of streets, roadways, drainageways and related areas by operating a variety of heavy equipment. The DoD Skillbridge intern will train under the supervision of the Street Maintenance Supervisor.
ABOUT THE JOB
Operates a variety of heavy equipment in order to perform street maintenance activities to repair and maintain storm-water washes, asphalt, landscapes, alleys and road shoulders. Assesses drainages, fences, bollards, potholes, culverts, and channels to determine maintenance plans.Performs dust control by spraying water on dirt roads, alleys and shoulders to ensure compliance with air quality control. Sweeps roadways to extend the life of pavement by preventing the buildup of materials that can cause deterioration and help reduce pollution by capturing pollutants. Utilizes loader to clear out larger pieces of debris or other hazards from roadways such as asphalt or storm clean up material into dump trucks. Maintains and shapes ditches alongside roads to ensure effective water flow. Repairs and maintains unpaved roads, ensuring a smooth and even surface using Gannon tractor. Creates trenches for laying pipes or cables underground. Performs inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operation and longevity of equipment. Inspects work sites prior to working to ensure there are no hidden safety issues. Reports any concerns with equipment or job site to supervisor or lead.Responds to emergency calls for service including post-storm cleanup, de-icing bridges, and setting up or taking down signs and barricades, and performing emergency road repairs to ensure public safety. Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
