As a Maintenance Mechanic with the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick, you will have the opportunity to build skills across multiple trades. Working alongside a team with decades of combined experience, you will gain hands-on experience in plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, landscaping, carpentry, flooring, and more. These are valuable trades that can lead to long-term, stable employment and a rewarding career in facility maintenance or any of the skilled trades.
General Repairs & Unit Maintenance1. Perform routine and emergency repairs in occupied and vacant units, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, appliances, and general handyman tasks.2. Assist with unit turnovers by completing repairs and updates to prepare apartments for new residents.3. Ensure timely, high-quality work that meets public housing standards, building codes, and agency expectations.Preventive Maintenance & Safety1. Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections of building systems, equipment, and property infrastructure to reduce breakdowns and extend asset life.2. Identify and address safety hazards during daily work; promptly report issues that pose risks to residents, staff, or agency property.3. Participate in seasonal tasks such as winterizing systems, filter changes, and equipment testing.Work Orders & Emergency Response1. Respond to assigned work orders and resident maintenance requests using the agency’s maintenance tracking system.2. Complete documentation accurately and promptly.Grounds, Facilities & Common Areas1. Maintain common areas, administrative buildings, sheds, and community spaces, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and safety.2. Perform regular groundskeeping duties including trash removal, sidewalk clearing, basic landscaping, and snow/ice removal as needed.Inventory, Vehicle & Equipment Care1. Maintain an organized work vehicle and ensure it is stocked with necessary tools and supplies.2. Assist in tracking and replenishing inventory, alerting supervisors when materials need to be ordered.3. Use and maintain agency tools, equipment, and personal protective gear in accordance with safety protocols.Pest Control & Compliance1. Assist in identifying and responding to pest control issues within units or shared spaces.2. Support compliance with HUD regulations, local housing codes, and agency maintenance procedures.3. Participate in safety meetings, drills, and mandatory training to promote a safe and compliant work environment.Communication & Collaboration 1. Work professionally and respectfully with residents, coworkers, and contractors, providing clear updates on maintenance status.2. Coordinate daily activities and task priorities with supervisors and team members.3. Support the agency’s commitment to high-quality resident service and property upkeep.Additional Duties1.
