Provide training and work experience in a mentorship environment to transitioning military members interested in working in the shipboard fire prevention and response field.
▪ Responsible for ensuring fire prevention and safety compliance during assigned availabilities.▪ Conducts unplanned events/mishap investigations on shipboard fire related incidents and completes detailed associated report.▪ Ensures compliance with contractual requirements, NAVSEA Standard Items, Local Standard Items, Navy Instructions, and OSHA laws and regulations.▪ Monitors ship conditions, reviews work and test plans that affect fire safety.▪ Maintain knowledge and administrative control of shipboard fire safety conditions and systems to support the preparation, issuance, and maintenance of the Safety of Ship Maintenance Identification list (SOSMIL).▪ Leads the Fire Safety Council (FSC) for assigned availabilities.▪ Prepares and conducts briefings, training and/or meetings as required (i.e. Back to the Boat (B2B), Fire Safety Watch Training, Firefighting Conferences, FSCs).▪ Performs other related duties as assigned.
The SkillBridge intern will receive training towards a FSO Qualification, with the possibility of fully qualifying. This training will allow the intern to have an understanding of shipboard fire prevention and response requirements, and the possibility of future government service as a FSO.
