Regional Trial Attorneys have, among other functions, responsibility for litigating civil actions in U.S. District Courts and before Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), from various panels. Our litigation work supports the Department of Labor and the agencies that protect workers’ pay, benefits, safety, and health. We work closely with agencies such as the Wage and Hour Division, the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Employee Benefits Security Administration, among others. Beyond litigation, we also provide legal advice and opinions to these agencies and, when appropriate, to the public. As a SkillBridge participant working alongside our Regional Trial Attorneys, you’ll get a front row view of what federal litigation looks like in practice. You might help attorneys prepare cases by reviewing evidence, organizing exhibits, drafting research memos, or sitting in on strategy sessions as teams map out how to move a case forward. There are opportunities to take depositions and participate in settlement discussions and hearings before Administrative Law Judges or in federal court, giving you a practical sense of how DOL protects workers’ wages, safety, retirement benefits, and civil rights. The work is fast paced, hands on, and mission driven—and you’ll be contributing to cases that have a real impact on workers and employers across the country, all while learning how a federal legal office prepares, builds, and litigates cases.More information on the Solicitor’s Office and its work may be found here: What We Do | U.S. Department of Labor
