MCEMA is seeking transitioning service members to participate in a hands-on SkillBridge internship. Interns will gain practical experience in all phases of emergency management, including planning, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Participants will work alongside experienced professionals in both real-world operations and structured training exercises, developing skills applicable to civilian emergency management roles. The internship is unpaid and requires no out-of-pocket expenses.
Emergency Management Interns will:Support EOC operations and incident action planningAssist with disaster response coordination and risk assessmentsAid in development and implementation of emergency plansSupport community outreach, public information, and alerting campaignsParticipate in training exercises with local, state, and federal agenciesComplete synchronous online coursework through FEMA, TEEX, and AEMA on ICS, disaster response, and emergency management principles
Eligible applicants: active-duty service members within 180 days of separation and at least 180 days of serviceMust be approved by service member’s chain of commandTraining delivered through hybrid methods: in-person OJT, classroom instruction, and virtual synchronous trainingPerformance evaluations provided weekly and at program completionInterns will receive documentation of training hours and certificates for FEMA/TEEX/AEMA courses completedProgram prepares participants for entry-level emergency management positions and civilian career pathways
