Michael Baker International is proud to partner with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program to offer transitioning service members an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and industry knowledge in construction inspection. This internship provides structured training and mentorship designed to prepare participants for careers in civil, transportation, municipal, and airport construction projects.
Participants will engage in a comprehensive training curriculum that includes:Orientation & Foundations: Inspector role, safety principles, surveying basicsCodes, Standards & Documentation: Plan/spec reading, electronic reporting, constructability reviewSafety & Quality Control: QA/QC fundamentals, work zone traffic control, material testing basicsField Shadowing & Mentorship: Observing inspections, surveying, and communication with stakeholdersSupervised On-the-Job Experience: Performing inspections, reporting, and quantity tracking under guidanceProfessional Transition & Capstone: Employment readiness and certification pathwaysInstructional Methods:- Online learning modules- Hands-on field training and mentorshipProgram Benefits:- Exposure to real-world construction projects- Development of technical and professional skills- Hours and experience toward future inspector certifications- Optional OSHA 10 Construction training- Awareness of industry certifications (NICET, ACI Level I, work zone safety)
High School Diploma OR GED1+ years experience in construction (roadway, bridge, or stormwater experience is a plus!)Valid driver's license and ability to pass a 7 year criminal, educational and employment background check.Willingness to travel, work varied shifts/weekends, and in all weather conditions as necessary.
