This program transitions service members into civilian law enforcement through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on field training. Interns complete a state-recognized academy curriculum designed to meet POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification requirements. Core Training: Tactical Skills: De-escalation (Verbal Judo), Krav Maga defensive tactics, and emergency medical response.Legal & Ethics: Constitutional law, Use of Force standards, and professional boundary-setting. Operations: Facility security, crisis management, and investigative report writing. Outcome: The program culminates in the state-mandated POST examination, providing a direct pathway to a career as a certified Correctional Officer with the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level. In order to maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following: Enforcement of rules and regulations. Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts. Modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior. Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior. Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items. Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations. Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates. Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements. Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required. Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations. Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates. Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.
