The Welding – Gas Metal / Gas Tungsten Arc Welder (GMAW / GTAW) SkillBridge program prepares transitioning service members for advanced entry-level welding careers in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, fabrication, and construction environments. Participants receive hands-on training in gas metal arc welding (MIG), gas tungsten arc welding (TIG), welding safety, blueprint reading, and quality control aligned with industry standards. This accelerated program builds upon foundational welding skills and emphasizes precision, consistency, and employability to support a successful transition into high-demand skilled trades occupations.
As an entry-level Gas Metal or Gas Tungsten Arc Welder, graduates may work in industrial, manufacturing, or fabrication settings performing welding operations on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Typical duties include reading blueprints and weld symbols, setting up welding equipment, performing MIG and TIG welds, inspecting finished welds, and following safety and quality assurance procedures. Graduates are prepared for roles such as production welder, fabrication welder, industrial welder, or apprentice welder, with opportunities for advancement through continued training, certification, and on-the-job experience.
