Broadband Technician - Telecommunications Training

The Broadband Technician Training Program is a six-week SkillBridge opportunity designed to prepare transitioning service members for careers in the telecommunications and broadband infrastructure industry. The program provides hands-on training in both fiber optic and wireless network deployment, focusing on the skills required to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of modern broadband systems.Participants receive practical instruction in fiber optic cable preparation, splicing fundamentals, OTDR and power meter testing, and network troubleshooting, along with wireless infrastructure concepts including antenna systems, basic RF principles, and small cell site components. Training is delivered through a combination of classroom instruction, lab activities, and field-simulated environments that reflect real-world broadband deployment scenarios.The program emphasizes industry safety standards, equipment operation, and jobsite readiness, preparing for Broadband Technicians with telecommunications contractors, network operators, and infrastructure providers supporting nationwide broadband expansion.

ABOUT THE JOB

This training program prepares participants for careers as Broadband Technicians, supporting telecommunications contractors, broadband providers, and infrastructure companies working to expand and maintain critical communication networks.

RESPONSIBILITIES✨

• Support the installation, testing, and maintenance of modern broadband systems
• Prepare fiber optic cable, perform splicing, and conduct OTDR and power meter testing
• Troubleshoot network issues
• Understand wireless infrastructure concepts including antenna systems, basic RF principles, and small cell site components

QUALIFICATIONS✨

• Understanding of fiber optic and wireless network deployment
• Ability to operate industry-standard equipment and adhere to safety standards
• Jobsite readiness and capability to work with telecommunications contractors and network operators
