Production Operator: The Operator is responsible for safely operating chemical manufacturing equipment and performing production activities in accordance with established safety, quality, and environmental standards. This role supports efficient plant operations by monitoring processes, performing routine maintenance, executing documentation requirements, and responding appropriately to operational issues. Production Operator Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesSafety, Health, Security & Environmental (HSES)• Comply with all site safety regulations, Life-Saving Rules, PPE requirements, and environmental policies. • Identify, report, and address safety issues, equipment deficiencies, and environmental concerns. • Understand and follow site Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Pollution Prevention guidelines. • Participate in HSSE activities, safety observations, emergency response drills, and training. May serve on Emergency Response Team. Operations• Operate production equipment and instrumentation according to SOPs to produce materials meeting quality specifications. • Adjust process controls, valves, temperatures, flows, and instrumentation as directed or required. • Perform field rounds, monitor process conditions, and initiate corrective actions for abnormalities. • Conduct required in process analytical tests and record results in designated systems (SAP, MES, Enablon). • Handle hazardous materials safely and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. • Maintain cleanliness of assigned production area and equipment. Maintenance & Troubleshooting• Perform basic operator-level maintenance and minor repairs. • Troubleshoot process equipment and escalate issues as needed. • Assist with work permits and safe work practices. Teamwork & Communication• Collaborate effectively with supervisors, maintenance, logistics, quality, and fellow operators. • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence projects. • Assist in training of other employees and development of SOPs/job analyses. Required Qualifications• High school diploma or GED. • Ability to read and understand SOPs, safety data sheets (SDS), and technical documentation. • Ability to use computers and plant systems (SAP, MES, DCS, DeltaV, MS Office). • Strong safety-first mindset and mechanical aptitude. • Experience in chemical manufacturing or industrial operations (2+ years preferred). • Process Technology degree or equivalent technical training,(preferred)Physical DemandsThe role requires the ability to:• Stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and work at heights. • Lift and move up to 50 lbs routinely; occasional handling of drums and heavier items with equipment. • Use hands for operation of tools, valves, controls, and instrumentation. • Wear full PPE including respirators; pass required fit tests. • Work in hot/cold environments, confined spaces, and active production areas. • Chemical manufacturing production environment including indoor and outdoor areas. • Exposure to noise, chemicals, heights, and rotating shift schedules. • Substantial time spent in production areas. Training & ProgressionOperators may progress through a structured training program (Trainee → C → B → A → Lead Operator), based on demonstrated competencies, safety performance, and training matrix requirements.
Additional Notes• Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. • All duties must be performed in alignment with Nouryon policies, site standards, and regulatory requirements.• Operators may be required to comply with CFATS Personnel Surety requirements depending on site assignment.
