MUSC Health Facilities / Maintenance - Job Training Program

This program is designed for services members with some prior experience and training seeking employment in the private sector. It is divided into four segments as follows: 1) Orientation & Introduction to Carpenter Shop; 2) Core Maintenance Skills Development; 3) Specialized Training in Advanced Systems; and 4) Summary, Evaluation and Career Path Discussion.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Carpenter performs journeyman level carpentry work including indirect supervision of trades workers and helpers. Skills must be sufficient to satisfactorily perform related carpentry projects. Work includes constructing new or repairing existing buildings, walls, windows, doors, bookshelves, casework, etc. Contributes to a team effort and harmonious working relationship with others in the Engineering and Facilities Department and throughout MUSC.

RESPONSIBILITIES✨

• Performs skilled craftsman level trades related duties in varying types of heating / air conditioning work.
• Makes routine repairs, answers trouble calls, analyzes problems and executes action necessary to correct mechanical problems.
• Participate in outages, provides indirect supervision to other mechanics and helpers on an as needed basis when more than one employee is needed to complete a task.
• Ensures there are no unauthorized gas leaks.

QUALIFICATIONS✨

• Previous training and experience in sheet metal trades.
• Ability to analyze problems and execute necessary actions to correct mechanical issues.
