Over the course of the full 180-day program the Operational Technology Intern will: 1. Learn the basics of processes and procedures in Operational Technology and rotate among Telecommunication, Distribution Management Systems, Apparatus and Metering. Train in Operational Technology roles including the Apparatus Technician, Metering Technician, and SCADA Technician, and learn to operate and maintain related equipment. In addition to the rotation through the departments within Operational Technology, the intern will learn the basics of Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems, Basic concepts of Electricity, Alternating Current Fundamentals, Multimeter Operation, Introduction to Metering, Safety in Meter Work, Setting a Three Wire and Four Wire Meter, Replacing RD or R4 351R Relay Cube, Relay Programming, Changing our R2 351R Relay Cube and Fundamental of Telecommunications. See that tools and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working order and that any required repairs are promptly reported to the assigned Supervisor. Learn modern methods of fire safety and to be able to perform first aid and artificial respiration. Study and review other instructional guidelines to complete educational requirements/modules for the first six months outlined in the specifications for this position. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's Safety Manual. Perform other related work of this or any other classification requiring equal or lesser skill when assigned by the supervisor. During the internship, Operational Technology Interns will complete the following educational modules. First Aid, Maintain First Aid Kit, Housekeeping, Inspect Fire Extinguisher, Communicate with Mobile Radio, Load and Secure Materials, Use Hand Signals to Direct Vehicles, Setup of Ladders, Entry Level Driver Training, Intro to Transmission and Distribution Systems, Transmission, Distribution, Basic Electricity Review, Alternating Current Fundamentals, Multimeter Operation, Introduction to Metering, Safety in Meter Work, Set a Three Wire and Four Wire Meter & Replacing R2 or R4 351R Relay Cube, Relay Programming, Changing out R2 351R Relay Cube. Each module contains specific related skills competencies.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: APPARATUS TECHNICIAN I - POSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide for the prompt, efficient, and reliable testing, servicing, maintenance, and recording keeping of distribution equipment; to work and communicate in a team-oriented environment in accordance with the Cooperative’s mission, vision, and values.MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.EDUCATION: Require High school diploma or equivalent. Also require diploma and/or certificates in electrical, engineering, or industrial technology from an accredited college, or two (2) years of experience in basic electricity, distribution apparatus equipment, instruments, and controls. EXPERIENCE: Require experience with basic computer operation. Prefer progressive experience in testing, maintenance, and repair of distribution transformers, regulators, reclosers, switches, and breakers.KNOWLEDGE: Require a good working knowledge of electrical wiring, and the principles and practices utilized in electric power systems and apparatus equipment; an understanding of the operation and maintenance of transformers, regulators, reclosers, switches, and breakers; an understanding of computer programs, software applications, and test equipment applicable to this position; learning and becoming familiar with all hazards and shall conduct his/her work in a safe manner, observing all safety rules; learning and becoming familiar with RUS specifications, National Electric Code, and National Electric Safety Code. Require a willingness to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities. Change oil in transformers, reclosers, regulators, breakers, and switches.2. Perform all prepping and painting functions on transformers, reclosers, regulators, breakers, and switches.3. Operate forklift to load and unload equipment from transport vehicles.4. Process transfers, repairs reports, and inventory paperwork. 5. Perform testing, maintenance, and repair on transformers.6. Assist with installing/modifying SCADA wiring and controls in equipment as needed. 7. Assist in the testing, maintenance and repairing of regulators, reclosers, switches, and breakers including contact changes.8. Insure the highest quality of service and repair of equipment leaving the shop. 9. Perform any oil leak or spill cleanup as needed, and assist and support the districts with any oil leak or spill cleanup. 10. Provide assistance to other areas within System Engineering. 11. Participate in cross training in other areas of System Engineering, Operational Technology, and the Cooperative.12. Sees that assigned trucks, tools, and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working order and that any required repairs are promptly reported to Supervisor. Keep vehicles and related work area clean and safe.13. Is available after normal business hours to assist with power restoration and other essential customer service tasks as needed to maintain continuity of service to customers.14. Be familiar with and at all times follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's Safety Manual.15. Attend and participate in annual meeting as required or directed.16.
