LEAD Internship - ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN GS-0856-09

ABOUT THE JOB

Performs a variety of duties relating to the testing and new production of Air and Missile Defense Systems and other missile systems. On a rotational basis performs such duties as decanning of missiles, mechanically disassemble/assemble missiles, paint the components, clean and wash missiles and perform electronic testing and troubleshooting of Air and Missile Defense Systems assembly. Testing and troubleshooting are performed in the Directorate of Missile and Aerospace Readiness Facility and/or as a member of a contact team when visiting sites where missiles are deployed.1. Performs electrical and electronic testing troubleshooting and modification of Air and Missile Defense Systems as described below:a. Receives missile assembly and installs at appropriate test station making required electronic and mechanical connections. Performs computer-controlled tests. Receives test results in form of computer printouts. Make recommendations to Facility Manager relative to disposition of missile from data received. When required during the testing, may remove unit under test, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace malfunctioned system components to facilitate continuation of test. Analyzes printout to locate area(s) not meeting missile specifications. Utilizes schematics, engineering and production systems and subsystems test requirements, prints, written procedures, and oral instructions requiring an extensive knowledge of electronic theory and practice, including solid state devices, RF and microwave principles automatic phase control systems, servo mechanisms, guidance and stability loops and principles of hydraulics to test, checkout, identify defects, repair, replace, tune and align components, circuits and/or subsystems found in solid state missile systems. After isolating malfunctions, repairs and or replaces defective units. Assures maintenance of lot integrity when replacing parts or components to assure validity of trend analysis determined by the central data bank. Checks such characteristics as frequency, voltages, gain, loss, sensitivity, polarization and impedance to specification requirements. Tunes and adjusts systems and subsystems, setting electrical tolerances to specification requirements. Performs a series of checks and calculations when troubleshooting, such as tracing, power loss, phase shift, stability margin and supply voltages. Keeps to a minimum the disconnecting of circuitry and components for fault isolation and analysis, utilizes a theoretical analysis of circuitry construction in isolation of system faults.b. Assures computer reliability by performing daily tests of computer test equipment, using the "self-test" program. Performs manual redundancy check of the microwave or RF console. Uses diagnostic and troubleshooting logic to identify and isolate malfunctions and or components not conforming within acceptable operational parameters. Assures accuracy of diagnosis where it is determined the computer memory is the source of malfunction to avoid expenses of unwarranted request for contractor repair of memory units. Analyzes test equipment malfunctions, isolates defects, repairs and/or replaces components and calibrates. Calibrates TRME equipment in accordance with calibration schedules or when reliability is questionable.c. Prepares computer test data for electronic transmission to contractor operated central data bank to provide data for trend analysis of missile deterioration or degradation and to reflect status of theater readiness. Loads transmitting tape in computer memory, contacts central data bank, and actuate computer to transmit data. 65%2. Removes missile and separates components from containers.Disassembles and inspects missile and transports missile components to test areas. Cleans and paints components as required. Performs electrical connection and test of missile. Reassembles missile and returns to container after testing and or modification and repairs are completed. Transports back to storage area. 35
