This internship consists of three areas of focus within the Wildlife Center: Nonprofit Management, Education & Outreach, and avian rehabilitation. Interns will get experience working with glove-trained and stationary birds of prey, caring for injured and orphaned songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors, and learning various aspects of how to run and operate a nonprofit organization.

ABOUT THE JOB

Duties: - Assist the Director of Education on all AWC Education Department duties, including but not limited to avian husbandry, public programs, outreach & education, and maintenance.- Clean, sanitize, and reset bird enclosures. - Perform basic maintenance of aviaries. - Preparing daily meals for 20+ birds of prey.- Assist with the care of injured patients. - Work closely with glove-trained raptors.- Lead public programs and educational events.- Perform administrative duties as needed.- Assist other departments as needed- Other job-related duties may be assigned. Skills & Abilities:Organized and detail-oriented.Comfortable working with wildlifeQualifications: Passion for conservation and wildlife.

The Alabama Wildlife Center is a wildlife rehabilitation and education center located in Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama, United States. It is the largest and oldest rehabilitation center in the state.The Alabama Wildlife Center (AWC) is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native wild birds across Alabama, serving over 100 species.
