Samsung Austin Semiconductor has been in Central Texas for 27 years. In 2021, Samsung announced that it would build a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas. The estimated $17 billion investment in the United Sates will help booster production of advanced logic semiconductor solutions that power next-generation innovations and technologies. The new facility will manufacture products based on advanced process technologies for application in areas such as mobile, 5G, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence (AI). Samsung remains committed to supporting customers globally by making advanced semiconductor fabrication more accessible and meeting surging demand for leading-edge products.

ABOUT THE JOB

All interns that join the Samsung Austin Semiconductor EHS department will receive training that covers the following items in preparation for a technician role: 1) Semiconductor Manufacturing Overview (eLearning); Safety training for office, fab, and/or construction environments (blended learning) 2a) Additional as needed, EHS Technician, Safety: Administrative Tasks: Intern will be integrated into the EHS Team and will be exposed to • Safety Databases• Excel Spreadsheets • OSHA Recordkeeping • Incident/Injury Management For field coverage: Intern will be exposed to: • Safety hazard identification walks o Intervention o Coaching of employees o Possible stop work conditions• Incident/Near Miss investigations o Interviews o Taking witness statements o Root Cause Analysis o Assigning corrective actions 2b) Additional as needed, EHS Technician, Environmental:• Provide field support for all environmental aspects and impacts.• Conduct field assignments such as: o Environmental compliance audits. o Air, waste and water regulatory inspections. o Field parameter sampling, (air, water, waste) o Risk assessments.• Document and track departmental metrics on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and build reports on operational performance.• Participate in Emergency Response Preparedness scenarios and support the site Emergency Response Team in the event of an incident. Collaborate with Incident Command and support any emergencies with environmental support as needed.• Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate environmental operational risk points with the goal of generating a safer work and more efficient workplace.• Collaborate with other departments on project coordination including step plan review, pre-task plans, work grading and job walks. Oversee emergent project work requiring environmental operational support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive training in Semiconductor Manufacturing Overview and Safety training for various environments.
  • Be integrated into the EHS Team, handling safety databases, Excel spreadsheets, OSHA recordkeeping, and incident/injury management.
  • Participate in safety hazard identification walks, interventions, coaching of employees, and possibly stopping work conditions.
  • Conduct incident/near miss investigations, including interviews, taking witness statements, root cause analysis, and assigning corrective actions.
  • Provide field support for environmental aspects and impacts including compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct field parameter sampling for air, water, and waste, and perform risk assessments.
  • Document and track departmental metrics, build reports on operational performance.
  • Participate in Emergency Response Preparedness scenarios and support the site Emergency Response Team during incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work with safety databases and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge in OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Skills in conducting environmental compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Experience in handling incident/near miss investigations and root cause analysis.
