US Utility Services is offering a hands-on, 12-week (or customized duration) SkillBridge fellowship for transitioning Service members in South Florida. This program is designed for individuals who want to master heavy equipment operation and technical field services in the utility sector. As a participant, you will gain "Triple Threat" expertise in high-demand municipal and industrial infrastructure maintenance. You will learn to operate industrial "Jet-Vac" systems, conduct precision hydro-excavation (soft-dig) to protect critical underground lines, and perform essential storm drain maintenance that keeps our local infrastructure flood-ready.This is a pipeline to full-time employment. We are looking for candidates with a mechanical mindset, a commitment to safety, and a desire to be on the front lines of infrastructure protection.
Hydro-Excavation & "Soft Dig" OperationsUtility Daylighting: Operate high-pressure water wands and vacuum booms to safely expose underground gas, electric, and fiber optic lines (Potholing).Pressure Management: Learn to calibrate water pressure (PSI) based on soil density and the sensitivity of the target utility to prevent line damage.Slot Trenching: Use precision water streams to dig narrow, non-destructive trenches for new utility installations.Debris Management: Manage the vacuum suction flow and debris tank capacity to ensure efficient soil removal and site cleanliness.2. High-Pressure Pipe JettingNozzle Selection: Select and swap specialized jetting heads (e.g., penetrators, degreasers, or root cutters) based on the type of pipe blockage.Line Scouring: Deploy high-pressure hoses into sanitary sewers and storm mains to blast away grease, scale, and root intrusions.Hose Management: Master the operation of hydraulic hose reels, including "pulsing" techniques to navigate around 90-degree bends in underground piping.Obstruction Diagnosis: Use the "feel" of the hose and vacuum feedback to identify downstream collapses or heavy silt deposits.3. Storm Drain & Infrastructure MaintenanceSystem Cleaning: Perform vertical vacuuming of catch basins, manholes, and lift stations to remove heavy silt and environmental debris.Flood Prevention: Clear structural blockages in storm conveyance systems to ensure proper water flow during Florida's heavy rain events.Confined Space Safety: Assist in the setup of ventilation and air monitoring equipment for safe entry (when required) into underground structures.4. Equipment Technical MaintenancePre-Trip Inspection: Perform daily PMCs (Preventative Maintenance Checks) on the truck’s auxiliary engine, high-pressure pump, and vacuum filtration system.Troubleshooting: Diagnose common field issues such as pump cavitation, vacuum leaks, or nozzle clogs.Rig Sanitization: Perform post-job wash-downs of all jetting and vacuum equipment to maintain asset longevity and hygiene standards.5. Safety & Site LogisticsTraffic Control: Set up OSHA-compliant work zones using cones, signs, and flagger protocols to protect the crew and the public.
