This accelerated plan focuses on essential safety, core tasks, and immediate contribution to fieldwork. Fieldwork may require temporary duty travel status during the transportation season between three different locations: Pomeroy, Dayton, and Burbank, WA.
Incumbent works under closer than normal supervision at the journeyman level performing assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the full performance grade level. As a Biological Science Technician for the juvenile fish transportation program, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of juvenile fish collection and transportation equipment at dam facilities or on downstream barges. Key duties include collecting fish, determining appropriate loading densities, monitoring fish behavior and condition, and maintaining standardized program data. This role requires performing daily inspections of fishways, making independent decisions to ensure the welfare of collected fish, including those listed under the Endangered Species Act, and recommending operational improvements. The technician will also provide detailed reports to supervisors and may support the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Program by assisting with report writing and data analysis.
