We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Engineering Lab Technician to support the daily operations of our engineering lab. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, mechanically inclined, and comfortable assembling, maintaining, and testing lab equipment and prototypes. You’ll assist engineers, students, and researchers with experiments, prototype development, and general lab activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, or related field• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in a lab or technical workshop setting (internships included)• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment• Ability to follow technical instructions, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering concepts• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail• Basic computer skills for documentation and equipment monitoring• Good communication and teamwork abilitiesPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Experience working in an academic, research, or engineering lab environment• Familiarity with test instruments (multimeters, strain gauges, oscilloscopes, etc.)• Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, soldering, or electronics assembly• Understanding of data acquisition systems or LabVIEW is a plus• Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is an assetKEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Assist in the setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance of lab equipment and testing apparatus• Build and assemble mechanical, electrical, or structural test rigs and prototypes using tools, fasteners, and materials• Support student and faculty projects with fabrication, instrumentation, and troubleshooting• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals• Monitor equipment during experiments and collect data as needed• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized lab environment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols• Manage inventory of lab tools, materials, and components; order supplies as needed• Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment• Document test results, procedures, and build steps accurately• Provide technical support during instructional lab sessions or research activitiesSKILLS• Mechanical and electrical assembly• Strong troubleshooting and hands-on technical skills• Comfortable working with embedded hardware, sensors, and test equipment• Good documentation and communication abilities• Ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team• Attention to detail and a willingness to learn on the job
