The WG-3416-13 Toolmaker position will be a 120-day skills and knowledge transfer of current Toolmaking experience into the Army Civilian Sector. Feedback sessions with the participant and the SkillBridge POCs will be conducted at the midpoint and conclusion of the placement for programmatic improvement. Skills transfer can be adapted based on developmental needs of the participant. Major duties include fabricating, overhauls, calibrates, and repairs tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges used by workers performing machining and assembly work. Develops, fabricates, and repairs various types of punches and dies for use in metal working press operations. Fabricates and repairs molds for use in molding and shaping plastics, rubber, and other materials. The work requires a high degree of skilled workmanship in the planning, layout, machining, assembly, and hand finishing of work to precise dimension and close tolerances. Receives assignments through work orders or oral instruction normally accompanied by blueprints, sketches, or a model of the required piece to be manufactured. Independently plans the sequence of operations, obtains material, lays out work, calculates necessary dimensions and tolerances, and plans for performance of related operations such as heat treating, plating, etc. Assembles tool or fixture and checks functional performance, making necessary changes.
Applicant must possess a Target MOC listed or civilian experience equivalent, along with any other required certifications. Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Moderate lifting up to 40lbs when moving machine attachments and work pieces. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Works indoors under normal shop conditions of dust, dirt, fumes, and noise. There is danger to eyes and lungs from hot chips, grinding particles and coolants; to lungs from grinding dust; and to hand and body from moving machines.
