The Irrigation Technician SkillBridge position provides hands-on training in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and residential irrigation systems. Participants will gain practical experience working with irrigation controllers, valves, pumps, piping, and water management systems while learning industry best practices for efficiency and sustainability. This role supports landscape and facilities operations by ensuring proper water distribution, system performance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. Job TitleIrrigation TechnicianProgram TypeDuration: 90–180 days (flexible based on SkillBridge approval)Position SummaryThe Irrigation Technician SkillBridge participant will train alongside experienced irrigation professionals to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and/or residential irrigation systems. This hands-on role provides transitioning service members with real-world technical skills, industry certifications (as applicable), and pathways to full-time employment upon program completion.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with installation of irrigation systems, including piping, valves, controllers, and sprinkler headsPerform routine inspections, maintenance, and seasonal start-ups/shut-downsDiagnose and repair leaks, wiring issues, controller malfunctions, and coverage problemsRead and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and system layoutsAdjust irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and proper coverageSupport troubleshooting of pumps, backflow preventers, and drip systems (as applicable)Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectivelyDocument work performed and report system issues to supervisorsFollow all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company standardsTraining & DevelopmentOn-the-job training with certified irrigation techniciansExposure to industry-standard equipment and controllersOpportunity to earn irrigation-related certifications (if offered by employer)Professional development in customer service, scheduling, and job-site communicationRequired QualificationsEligible for participation in the DoD SkillBridge ProgramActive-duty service member within approved transition windowAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsBasic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learnStrong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detailAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical laborPreferred QualificationsExperience with maintenance, construction, utilities, or mechanical systemsFamiliarity with plumbing, electrical systems, or landscapingValid driver’s licenseLeadership or team-based experience from military serviceSkills GainedIrrigation system installation and repairWater management and efficiency practicesMechanical and electrical troubleshootingJob-site safety and complianceCustomer communication and technical documentationPost-Program OpportunitiesSuccessful SkillBridge participants may be considered for full-time employment as an Irrigation Technician, Lead Technician, or related roles based on performance and business needs.
