By way of Hands-on Demonstration/On-The-Job Training (OJT), the candidate will be equipped to provide support in multiple areas inclusive of, but not limited to forensic support activities. Upon successful completion of this program, the candidate will be able to demonstrate comprehension of skillsets through both written and oral communication and practical application.

ABOUT THE JOB

Supports and learns from scientists responsible for the analysis of submitted evidence and supports the improvement of the forensic capabilities within the US Army Criminal Investigations Laboratory (USACIL). Interns will independently work on special projects within the USACIL Divisions. As part of the internship, the successful candidate will may complete data collection, reference material catalog construction, data analysis, instrumental analysis, laboratory maintenance, technical literature review, notebook records, and draft technical reports. Laboratory techniques/instruments may include pipetting, specialized microscopy, genetic analyzers, gas/liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy or other instrumentation relevant to the specific forensic discipline opportunity. Work will be directed, reviewed, and mentored by experienced scientists. Collaboration and professional engagement with scientists and leadership is expected and regular. Given the typical duration of selected projects, candidates should not expect to initiate and complete an entire project.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or in progress: Senior/Junior) in a hard science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Data Science)
  • Previous research/laboratory experience
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (word, excel, power point)
  • Technical reading and writing skills

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY

Bachelor’s degree (or in progress: Senior/Junior) in a hard science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Data Science). Previous research/laboratory experience. Microsoft Office proficiency (word, excel, power point). Technical reading and writing skills.
