Direct Support Professionals provide assistance with activities of daily living to Amber Lantern, LLC's residents who are recovering from serious mental health conditions. This program is ideal for service members who are interested in working in mental health care or senior care. Participants will develop skills related to: medication administration, supervised living home management, conflict resolution, and mental health treatment. This is a highly rewarding position where participants have the opportunity to improve the lives of others.
Direct Support Professionals provide support to residents as they complete daily tasks, offering reminders and guidance related to personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming in order to reinforce self‑care practices. They assist with meal preparation and help residents develop basic cooking skills. Direct Support Professionals also support individuals with personal laundry and the upkeep of their living spaces, helping them build strong household‑care habits.In addition, they help residents schedule medical appointments and arrange necessary transportation. They maintain all care records in compliance with company policies and are responsible for documenting, reporting, and reviewing residents’ daily progress, needs, medical concerns, and behaviors. Any issues, problems, or concerns are communicated to the House Manager as needed. Direct Support Professionals also oversee medication administration to ensure that residents take medications exactly as directed by their healthcare providers.Relationship‑building is an important aspect of the role. Direct Support Professionals establish rapport by forming personal connections and showing genuine interest in residents’ lives. They accompany residents on community outings, lead daily group and individual activities for entertainment, and engage in conversation to reinforce positive behaviors and encourage social interaction. They also respond appropriately to any safety or medical issues that arise, documenting these events according to policy.To qualify for the position, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 21 years old. A Food Handler’s Permit—or the willingness to obtain one—is required, as well as a valid driver’s license with minimum liability insurance. Candidates must be able to model calm and appropriate behavior consistently, even in challenging situations, and must demonstrate clear and effective communication skills in both verbal and written forms. Experience in residential care facilities, work with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness, or previous caregiving roles with children or adults is preferred.The physical requirements of the job include the ability to stand, sit, walk, handle or reach for objects, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and occasionally taste or smell. The role requires lifting or moving at least 50 pounds in order to assist residents with life‑skills development. Vision requirements may include close vision, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus. Direct Support Professionals may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during activities, and the noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to occasionally loud.
