AccesSurf NonProfit Internship Internship
AccesSurf offers a SkillBridge opportunity for separating/retiring service members to learn how a small non-profit operates, gain hands-on experience planning and executing water-based programs and provide experience in the field of adaptive sports. This internship can be tailored to the desired learning objectives of the individual within the scope of AccesSurf’s mission and as agreed to by the Executive Director.
ABOUT THE JOB
AccesSurf SkillBridge interns will support the organization in daily operations and recurring adaptive water sports programs around Oahu, and in some cases interns may have the opportunity to support events on other islands. SkillBridge Interns will be exposed to the full spectrum of non-profit functions to the max extent possible and based on their desired learning objectives. Interns will be treated as part of the staff team and will be asked to support a variety of functions across the organization, including but not limited to outreach, logistics, event/program planning, event/program execution, staff/board meetings and administrative activities. SkillBridge Interns will gain experience planning and executing events of various sizes, providing people with disabilities access to the ocean and water sports. In addition, interns will work with a variety of stakeholders, both civil and military, to help grow the volunteer and participation base from the various communities on Oahu.SkillBridge Interns will develop hands-on skills and knowledge of adaptive sports and working with people with disabilities in a dynamic environment. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to work with and lead teams of volunteers with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, learning to navigate relationships and teaming outside of the military environment.Daily activities range from office work, beach/ocean events, meetings/outreach in various locations and logistics support at storage facilities. Schedules are flexible and telework is available as necessary. There is no direct employment opportunity associated with this internship; however, SkillBridge Interns will have networking opportunities in the course of their activities with AccesSurf.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the organization in daily operations and recurring adaptive water sports programs around Oahu.
- Assist in event and program planning and execution.
